What is an eVisit?

Having your eVisit consultation is like attending your in-person appointment, except that you will interact with one of our healthcare providers at the Headache, Migraine & Concussion Centre using video. Before you begin your video consultation, your healthcare provider will have reviewed relevant medical information for your eVisit.

Using our video consultation service, our specialists can evaluate your symptoms and ask you any related questions. This service has many benefits for our patients, including reduced travel and waiting time, as well as avoiding the risk of getting sick from other patients in the waiting room.

What tools do I need to have my eVisits?

To schedule your eVisit, you will need an email address and a reliable Internet connection. Moreover, for your video consultation, you will also need a video-enabled smartphone or tablet, or a PC with a webcam to support good audio and video quality during your consultation.

How does the eVisit work?

To arrange your video consultation, our support staff at the HMC Centre will first send you an email invitation for your eVisit, which may contain your Identification Number (PIN).

Prior to your eVisit, you will need to check your device or system to ensure that it has the necessary video and audio capabilities to support your video consultation ahead of time. For best results, the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN) recommends using the Google Chrome browser for eVisits using your computer. 

If you plan to access your eVisit from your smartphone or tablet, you will need to download and install the required application (indicated in the email you will receive) before your appointment. You should click the test your device link to check your Internet and video connections.

Join your eVisit at your scheduled time by clicking on the Start eVisit link provided in the email you have received. You will be prompted to enter your name (and, if required, the PIN you were assigned). Upon entering your information, a video window will open, and your video consultation will begin.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. There is no cost to patients for the eVisit, as it is covered by OHIP.

Yes. Just like any in-person healthcare appointment, your eVisit will be strictly private and confidential. Your video consultation will only be shared between you and your healthcare provider.
